For this reason, we have the best doctors in the pro vince of Malaga to treat any pathology in this joint.

Hip pain

It is important to emphasise that the hip is a joint with very important functions. Thanks to it, the body can walk, turn on itself, bend over or sit down.

Treatments and interventions

At Hospital Ochoa we perform major surgeries such as arthrodesis (fixation of two pieces of bone, anchoring a joint), infiltrations, blocks and radiofrequency rhizolysis, which is highly effective and long-lasting.

Percutaneous kyphoplasty has brought about a major change in the treatment of vertebral fractures. Kyphoplasty involves the needle insertion of a balloon into the bone, which is then inflated to restore the vertebrae to their previous height and correct painful crushing. Once the balloon is well positioned, the space is filled with a kind of cement (polymethylmethacrylate) to prevent future collapse and, consequently, a relapse. The operation can be performed under local or general anaesthesia.

At Hospital Ochoa we are also experts in microdiscectomy, one of the most innovative surgical procedures for treating lumbar disc herniation. It is recommended when conservative treatments fail and end up causing a poor quality of life for the patient.

Medical surgeon specialising in hip arthroscopy

Traditionally, hip specialists have been responsible for osteoarthritis and hip fractures, which particularly affect the elderly. However, the pathology of the hip begins much earlier, in the years when the adult is still young, so it is more than advisable to opt for correction at an earlier stage to prevent osteoarthritis and the future need for prosthesis or hip arthroscopy.

Dr. Rafael Corrales’ team specialises in hip pathologies and their surgical treatment.

Having an experienced hip surgeon is essential to diagnose and treat any possible pathologies that may affect one of the most important joints of the entire motor apparatus. Dr. Rafael Corrales is a renowned traumatologist specialising in Marbella in hip and minimally invasive surgical treatments such as arthroscopy.

Hip arthrodesis

What is hip replacement?

Hip replacement is characterised by a complete loss of mobility in the hip joint.

How does this loss of function occur?

It can be caused primarily by various destructive processes of the hip, especially infections or fractures, which lead to fibrosis (scarring) between the femoral head and the acetabulum. This is called false hip arthrodesis or ankylosis.

Lumbar disc herniation surgery

The appearance of a herniated lumbar vertebral disc causes pain in the lower back, commonly known as lumbalgia or lumbago, and also radiating discomfort in the lower limb, i.e. sciatica.

Sciatica is the most common symptom of a herniated disc and the distribution of pain varies depending on the root or nerve that is compressed. Most patients usually get better with conservative treatment such as rest, painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs, infiltration, etc.

However, surgery is necessary in 5 to 10% of those affected. Therefore, lumbar disc herniation surgery is considered as a final resort.

Frequently asked questions Hip traumatology

Find out some of the answers to the most common questions about the hip and its ailments.

What causes a herniated disc?

Herniated discs are often caused by misuse of the back muscles on certain occasions.

Is it good to apply heat to herniated discs?

Yes, heat is recommended for the treatment of herniated discs.. It is an optimal measure to treat stiffness that limits the mobility of the area. By applying heat, we will increase circulation, helping to relax the back muscles and eliminating irritating toxins that accumulate in the tissues due to the disc injury. However, the application of heat is only an adjunct to therapy.
