Hospital Ochoa donates an ultrasound machine to Mauritania

El ecógrafo ya está en Mauritania.

Continuing our tradition of giving back, Hospital Ochoa has collaborated with the NGO HumanCoop in the provision of an ultrasound machine for Mauritania. This device will help monitor pregnancies and improve much needed medical care.

Bir Moghrein Health Centre

The ultrasound machine has been installed at the Bir Moghrein Health Centre in northern Mauritania. This town has about 20,000 inhabitants and is 300km away from the nearest hospital (6 hours away through the Sahara dessert). Its economic circumstances provides the community with scant medical equipment and the only health centre is staffed by a nurse, a radiology technician and a midwife, but no doctor.

HumanCoop identified this region as in urgent need of an ultrasound machine, and thus its introduction is expected to greatly improve the medical care of thousands of people. It will allow for better diagnosis of a wide range of pathologies as well as greatly improve pre-natal care.
